2020 Class Schedule

Everyone knows they need to do cardio. Its benefits are well documented, including pluses like improving heart health, burning fat and boosting metabolism. But if you’re not keen on running, don’t play any particular sport and/or can’t find time to squeeze a spin class into your schedule as well as your much-loved Pilates, you’ll be happy to hear we have the answer for you. It’s a new class on our 2020 schedule: Cardio Pilates.

This fusion class will be led by our wonderful instructor Ketakee (a medical doctor and Pilates instructor all in one!) and is designed to combine both cardiovascular exercise and all the benefits we know and love of Pilates… Namely strength, flexibility, stability and mental focus.

How does it work? It’s all thanks to the addition of a jump board that attaches to the foot bar end of the reformer. It enables you to perform more dynamic exercises that raise your heart rate and challenge your coordination and core strength. All the careful concentration and muscle strength you’ve gained from your previous Reformer Pilates sessions will be very much needed here too.

Just as in reformer classes, springs are used for adding weight, resistance and tension to exercises performed with the jump board. Increasing the spring tension while jumping means more power is required to send the carriage back, and is sure to have those muscles aching in no time.

Your Cardio Pilates instructor Ketakee is a huge fan of the jump board, regularly including it in her own practice to ensure she gets that high intensity cardio kick to complement her work on the mat and reformer. As with other fusion classes, she finds this one is an ideal way to really get the most from that one hour in the studio.

“I wanted this class to be both a fantastic workout that gets the blood pumping, and a class that leaves you feeling great at the end!” says Ketakee. “It’s good to mix up your workout routine and add in something different (in this case the jump board) to keep your body guessing!”
